The Holy Spirit is God, and He is a gift given to us and all those who believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It was through the shedding of Christ’s blood on the cross that we can receive the gift of the Holy Spirit that dwells inside us (John 16:7), and unlike Old Testament times, the Holy Spirit does not leave us (John 14:16), as in the case of Samson (Judges 16:20), but we can cause sorrow to Him through sin. The Holy Spirit is our advocate (John 14:26), comforter, and strength (Acts 1:8), and helps us to do the things that glorify God (Romans 8:26,27). He secures our salvation (Ephesians 1:13) and is the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead (Romans 8:11), and true born-again believers will seek more and more to please Him, and less and less to grieve Him.
